PREP ROUNDUP: Kritz fuels Lake City sweep

COEUR d'ALENE - Kory Kritz went 4 for 5 with four doubles and five RBIs on the day, leading Lake City past Post Falls 10-0 and 11-0 in the "Save Second Base" doubleheader on Tuesday, an event to raise awareness for breast cancer.

Kritz drove in three runs in the first game, including a two-run double in the first inning for Lake City (15-1, 9-0 5A Inland Empire League).

"She saw the ball really well today, and had some clutch hits," Lake City assistant coach Dan Silvis said.

Casey Stangel and Jordyn McCracken teamed on a no-hitter in the first game for Lake City. Post Falls' only runner reached on a hit batsman in the second inning.

Stangel went 3 for 3 and drove in two runs, Vanessa Shippy was 3 for 3, and Dakota Wilson hit a solo homer in the fifth.

Lake City plays its third doubleheader in three days today, hosting Sandpoint at 2 p.m. Post Falls (0-17, 0-9) plays host to Lake City on Saturday in a doubleheader.

Lindsie Scholwinski struck out 10 and allowed one hit in the first game for Coeur d'Alene. Chelsey Rasmussen had three RBIs in the second game for Coeur d'Alene (13-4), which hosts Lakeland today at 4 p.m.

SPIRIT LAKE - Jenna Hoffman and Sydnie Malloy each homered for the host Tigers, who bounced back from their first Intermountain League loss of the season on Saturday to beat the Badgers in league play.

Hoffman's two-run homer in the second inning broke a 1-all tie for Timberlake (9-3, 8-1 IML). Malloy's two-run homer triggered a six-run third inning.

"They really got us going," Timberlake coach Mike Menti said. "As soon as we got those home runs, it got contagious, and the girls started getting some good swings on the ball."

Nicole Cameron went 3 for 3 for the Tigers. She struck out 11, but also walked nine.

Bonners drops to 1-6 in league.

Timberlake plays host to Sandpoint on Thursday.

SANDPOINT - Lakeland scored twice off Sandpoint starter Caleb Nishimoto in the fifth inning to take the lead for good in the 4A Inland Empire League game at Pine St. Field.

Batterymates James Prockish and Nathan Collier each had two hits for the Hawks (9-3, 4-1 4A IEL), who gave up six runs in the third inning to fall behind 6-5.

"Things kind of fell apart out there," Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury of the third inning. "We got the momentum right back, Nathan settled in and that was huge for us."

Sandpoint fell to 1-8, 0-5.

Lakeland travels to Coeur d'Alene today for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.

MOSCOW - Brett Robbins hit a two-run triple in the fifth inning of the second game and D.J. Sutton tacked on a two-run double in the sixth to help the Vikings (14-2) rally past the Bears and complete a doubleheader sweep in nonleague play.

After falling behind 3-0 after three innings, the Viking bats didn't answer until Robbins' hit in the fifth. In the next inning Sutton knocked in the tying and go-ahead runs, and Jesse O'Hagan provided insurance with a two-run single.

"We've played from behind a couple times this year and we've done a good job of not panicking, just playing the game and putting some hits together," Coeur d'Alene coach Nick Rook said.

In the opener, Bubba Duran improved to 4-1 with a complete-game shutout, giving up two hits and zero walks while striking out eight. He also hit his second home run of the season and finished with three RBIs.

Sutton also set a school record when he was hit by a pitch for the 10th time this season, breaking the previous mark of nine shared by Matt Lambert and Ryan Dunton.

The Vikings host a nonleague doubleheader with Lakeland today at 3 p.m.

SPIRIT LAKE - Shane Miller went 4 for 5 and drove in three runs as the visiting Badgers surprised Timberlake, knocking the Tigers out of first place in the Intermountain League.

Mike Clarkson struck out eight for Bonners Ferry (2-5 IML), and held Timberlake (10-2, 7-2) to four hits.

"We couldn't hit, and they hit pretty well," Timberlake coach Bill Rider said. "It's pretty tough to win when you leave eight guys on base."

Trevor Masterson drove in three runs for Timberlake, including a two-run single in the fifth.

Timberlake plays host to Post Falls today at 4.

boys medalist honors

TWIN LAKES - Timberlake's Dylan VanWingerden won boys medalist honors with a 3-over-par 39 during a dual with Kellogg at Twin Lakes Village Golf Course.

Kellogg junior Kaceelyn Pouttu won girls medalist with a 2-over 36.

Maddie Hauck shot a 45 for Timberlake.

Kellogg won both boys and girls duals.

Timberlake competes in the Hawk Invitational today at The Links Golf Course in Post Falls.
