Jean Sawyers, 80

| July 13, 2010 4:56 AM

Jean Sawyers of Hayden was born Dec. 6, 1929, in San Bernardino, Calif., and passed away July 11, 2010, in Hayden.

Survived by husband Merrill “Bing” Sawyers of 62 years; sons Tom (wife, Corinne), Ron (wife, Sherri) and Dan (wife, Anne). Jean was a devoted wife, wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Grandchildren: Kris, Becky, Emily, Julia, John, David, Caitlin, Christa and great-grandson Tyler.

Jean would always welcome everyone with a genuine, warm, friendly smile. Her family and friends would describe her as a good listener, a woman of faith, and counted on to give good, honest advice. Well known for her kindness and loving heart; her pineapple upsidedown cake, Jell-O salads and egg salad sandwiches were family favorites. When someone needed something she was the perfect hostess and organizer. Last to sit down at meals, she always made sure that everyone else was taken care of first.

She was a worldwide traveler and loved to camp with her family; her dogs always found at her side. Lovingly involved in her grandchildren’s lives, she cheered them on and celebrated with them through each achievement. She was a devoted mother and after her sons grew up she began a career at Bank of America and worked there for several years. Later she earned her Real Estate license and worked in the San Diego market for several prominent agencies. She managed the family construction business working as the secretary and bookkeeper for 50 years.

She spent her life volunteering in her community. In the PTA, she always had a friendly smile and hot sandwiches for every activity. She joined the PEO chapter L J, in San Diego, and after moving to Idaho in 2005 she transferred to PEO chapter BF in Coeur d’Alene. She meant so much to so many and will be truly missed by every life she has touched.

Viewing will be held from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010, followed by funeral service at 2 p.m., all at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel.
