COEUR d’ALENE — The 36th annual Barb McPoland Back-to-School Children's Clothing Giveaway will be from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 521 E Lakeside Ave. in downtown Coeur d’Alene.

The giveaway will include new and gently used clothes that have been washed and sorted for infants, toddlers, elementary and middle school kids and teens — shoes, pants, shirts, dresses, coats, gloves and hats. Some adult-sized clothing will be available.

School-age children will receive new backpacks as long as supplies last.

The giveaway, which helps families in need, generally attracts a large crowd and a line usually forms early outside the church. More than 470 people were served last year. Those who participate are given a large plastic bag to fill with whatever they need. All the clothing is free. The church collects clothes throughout the year for this event. Many items are donated by congregation members and businesses.

This annual giveaway was named for its organizer, Barb McPoland, who died in 2009. She was a teacher who saw that many students needed clothes.
