Bear spotted in Cd’A

UPDATE (11:35 a.m.): Reporters and bystanders have been asked to back up a few blocks to see if the bear will come down. Fish and Game is reportedly preparing tranquilizers and will attempt to catch the bear with a net. Officers said they hope the bear will not have to be euthanized, but that will be determined by whether the bear is injured when it falls.

UPDATE: The bear reportedly came down and climbed another tree just down the block. Officials said they hope the bear moves along naturally, as it has not done any harm. If not, the bear may have to be euthanized; animal control officers said that is not what they want as a first option.

Coeur d’Alene police animal control responded to a bear on Eighth Street early this morning.

Animal control officers are reportedly standing by until Fish and Game arrives to assess the situation further.

“If the bear takes a wrong step on a branch, he may be coming down sooner than he expects, so be ready,” a Coeur d’Alene police animal control office told bystanders.

The bear is about 35 feet up a pine tree.
