A 13-year-old who led deputies on a high-speed chase early Monday was arrested by deputies east of Silverwood Theme Park.

The juvenile, whose name was not released, was booked into the Kootenai County Juvenile Detention Facility and charged with felony eluding and reckless driving, according to deputies.

A sheriff’s office Facebook post said the chase began on Highway 54 when Kootenai County deputies tried stopping an SUV around 1 a.m. after the vehicle failed to stop at an intersection near Athol. The SUV with the 13-year-old driver and a 15-year-old passenger headed south on Clagstone Road at speeds of more than 100 mph, according to deputies.

Near Bayview the SUV traveled at more than 90 mph when it ran another stop sign at the intersection of Good Hope Road and Parks Road, police say. Deputies lost sight of the vehicle, and then resumed the chase east of Silverwood, where they located the SUV without its headlights turned on.

Deputies said the children’s parents telephoned the juveniles and told them to stop for authorities.

“The juvenile driver finally pulled over on Nunn Road just east of Bunco Road after a parent of one of the juveniles called and told them to stop for the police,” said the Facebook post.
