Today’s ghastly groaner

Mr. Opperknockity is the finest piano tuner in the state. He was called to the local conservatory to deal with a temperamental Steinway.

When he got there, the headmaster told him, “The last man who worked on this piano needed to come back 10 times before it came into tune. Can you do better than that?”

Mr. Opperknockity said, “I’ll give it a try.” Six hours later, he was finished.

Two weeks later, the headmaster called.

“It’s a miracle!” the headmaster said. “It’s still in tune and it’s never sounded better. How did you do it?”

The piano tuner said, “You know what they say — Opperknockity only tunes once.”
