TURKEYS: Effort starts now

Print Article

Turkeys & More is now raising funds for the Thanksgiving distribution of turkeys and trimmings to vulnerable families. We’re encouraging people to donate or to be a sponsor so there will be sufficient funds to get a good bid on 17,000 turkeys the Community Action Partnership (CAP) Food Bank will need to purchase.

There is hunger in Kootenai County. Every week more than 1,200 families go to the CAP Food Bank for emergency food supplies. These people are single parents; folks working two jobs while trying to hold their life and family together; the disabled; veterans; the sick; frail elderly and the homeless.

Holidays tend to be stressful for all of us, but they are harder on people living in poverty.

Last year Turkeys & More held a Showcase of Talent at the Kroc and A Big Gobble event downtown Coeur d’Alene in order to raise funds to help pay some of the budget costs. Although we had wonderful talented performers, neither of these efforts raised much money. Instead of events this year, we’re asking people and businesses to donate as they do for Christmas For All. All funds raised would go directly to the Food Bank to pay the anticipated $40,000.

Checks may be made payable to CAP Food Bank and mailed to: Manager Darrell Rickard, 4144 W. Industrial Loop, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815. Write Turkeys & More on the line describing the reason for your donation. A written receipt will be promptly returned for your tax records.
