GUNS: A Democrat’s view

Print Article

As a gun-loving lifetime hunter, I take much offense at the remarks of the obviously mean-spirited, antagonistic, fearful, misinformed and hallucinogenic participants of the Gun Rally that was published in “fake news” Spokesman-Review. Since they think all media is “fake news,” I wish this article were such. But the facts and opinions these people are spreading are crazy.

No gun legislation has made it harder for me or anyone I know to get guns.

The fact that many of these “rallyers” were armed is testimony to that. There are no Democrats “taking guns, raising taxes, and installing a socialist regime.” All Democrats are not “stealing money,” “destroying the rule of law,” “will kill you without hesitation.” Where do they get these crazy ideas?

Rep. Walsh assured the crowd he “would defend against taxes and lies from Democrats.” With the gun or guns he’s carrying? My God, I’m a Democrat, and these guys, armed to the teeth, are scary.

I’ve got a right to be a Democrat, and I know NO Democrats who want to eliminate the Second Amendment or take guns away from sane citizens. Eight years of Obama and I still have my guns, as do all these “gun nuts.” The fear peddled by these “patriots” is pure fantasy calculated to eliminate democratic discussion on ways to decrease mass killings.

I fail to see how dialogue about ways to decrease mass killings has anything to do with taking guns from you, Rep. Walsh, nor has it anything to do with Second Amendment rights. The Constitution is designed to protect our rights, but also our safety, not only from “government takeover” you folks fear, but from ultra-right anarchists.
