KIRK: Culture war on facts

Print Article

I donít know what professors are teaching their students in college these days, but Iím wondering if aspiring journalists were required to take an ethics course back when the writer of this piece went to school. Itís a disgrace to trample over every guiding principle of journalism by letting this kid spout his opinion on the front page while making no effort to substantiate anything he says.

How does the reader know if heís even been on a college campus? At 24, heís barely old enough to have gotten a B.A. Reporting should be based on facts and facts are specifics. This is nothing but a right wing screed, offering no evidence that it reflects a true reality. Is there a quote from some professor? Are they burning the flag in classrooms? What constitutes teaching students to ďhate America?Ē

Do you know what Stalin called the intellectuals, the professors at the universities, and the scientists? He called them, ďInsects.Ē That was before he had them rounded up en masse and sent to Siberia. Iím sure Pravda cheered his every move on its front page.
