Paul Peters, 57
Dec. 11, 1966 — April 24, 2024
Paul Jeffrey Peters, aged 57, passed away April 24, 2024, at his home in Post Falls, Idaho.
Paul was born in La Crosse, Wis., on Dec. 11, 1966, and adopted as an infant by Marshall and Elizabeth Peters. The new family spent time in Saint Paul, Minn., and Kansas City, Kan., before settling in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, in 1976.
Paul graduated in Coeur d’Alene High School’s Class of 1985, where he made many lifelong friendships and enjoyed his time as a wide receiver on the varsity football team. An avid sports fan, his passion for football never ceased, whether he was watching or participating. One of Paul’s prevailing pastimes was cheering on his favorite teams: The Dallas Cowboys, the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Yankees.
He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1985. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, N.C., for training when he sustained a debilitating neck injury in a vehicle accident, resulting in an honorable discharge. After being discharged from the USMC, he served two years in the Army Reserves. He then traveled around the U.S., eventually finding his way back to North Idaho, where he worked as a custom finish carpenter for many years and drove a truck between Idaho and North Dakota.
Paul is predeceased by his father, Marshall “Pete” Peters, aunts Helen “Billie” Schroepfer, Audrey Kelley and Joyce Discher, and uncles Merle Jones and Thomas Jones. He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Peters, brother Jon Peters, nephew Travis Schierman, nieces Emily Peters and Holly Peters, aunts Dorothy Rasch and Harriet Mayfield, cousins and grandnieces.
He will be remembered fondly by those who knew him as a loving uncle to both given and chosen family, a friend to all, a helping hand, and a great storyteller.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life Sunday, June 9, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge, 209 Sherman Ave, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
