Smoke rises from a building that caught fire Wednesday night just off Seltice Way and Huetter Road. Mitchell Copstead, division chief with Kootenai County Fire and Rescue, said firefighters arrived at 7:08 p.m. and prevented the fire from spreading to surrounding trees and structures. The two-alarm blaze caused extensive damage to the structure, which had three tenants and housed several bays and an office, before it was contained, Copstead said. There was no one in the building when the fire started, but two people were evaluated onsite for smoke inhalation and declined medical transport. Coeur d’Alene and Northern Lakes firefighters also responded to the fire that was initially reported by passersby on Interstate 90. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
