COEUR d’ALENE — An empty barn burned down in Coeur d’Alene early Thursday morning.

Kootenai County Fire and Rescue responded around 4:30 a.m. to a barn fire on a residential property on Royal Anne Drive.

Flames had fully engulfed the structure by the time firefighters arrived. The barn was a “total loss,” Kootenai County Fire and Rescue Chief Chris Way said. No one was injured.

Neighbor Jodi Frederick said the sound of the blaze woke her husband, who called 911. She said first responders arrived within minutes.

“It was a little scary,” she said. “The trees on our side of the field were not close to where the fire was, so we didn’t feel we were in danger, but (the fire) was quite big in our eyes.”
