Francis “Marilyn” Dooling Wofford Hayes, 90

Francis “Marilyn” Dooling Wofford Hayes passed away on Jan. 20, 2022, in Hermitage, Penn. Born in Shoshone County on Jan. 17, 1932, to Tom and Francis (Wheatley) Dooling. As their fourth child, she joined brothers Jack and Kenneth “Jiggs,” and sister Helen. A graduate of Mullan High School she married Charles “Chuck” Wofford of Quapaw, Okla., in 1950. They had three sons: Tom, James “Tim,” and Todd. Following Chuck’s mining career took the family from the mountains of Idaho to Utah, New Mexico, Missouri and as far away as Ethiopia.

After Chuck’s passing in 1974, Marilyn found her way back to Idaho. She married William “Bud” Hayes in 1981, gaining three stepsons: William “Buddy,” Ron, and Gale Hayes. Marilyn resided in Mullan until Bud’s passing in 2013.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husbands and stepson Buddy. She is survived by: Tom (Eva) Wofford of Lewiston, Idaho; Tim (Diane) Wofford of Hermitage, Penn.; Todd (Norma) Wofford of Belgrade, Mont.; Ron (Sue) Hayes of Mullan, Idaho; Gale (Joann) Hayes of Mullan, Idaho; Shelley (David) Dooling Hartnett of Seattle, Wash.; Vickey (Joe) Dooling Dancy of Duncanville, Texas; Tom (Laurel) Pries of Carbonado, Wash.; Darlene Pries Dunn of Fountain Hill, Ariz.; Jolene Pries Coppin of Milton-Freewater, Ore.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A gathering to celebrate Marilyn’s life will happen later this year. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Mullan Historical Society.
