Car crashes into Fernan Lake
COEUR d’ALENE — Both occupants were transported to Kootenai Health via ambulance with non-life threatening injuries after a vehicle crashed into Fernan Lake shortly after noon on Sunday, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, Kootenai County Fire, EMS and Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office Dive Rescue Team responded to Fernan Lake Road near the east boat launch for a single-vehicle crash. It was reported a vehicle had crashed into the water, and unknown occupants were inside the vehicle.
Once on scene, deputies located two subjects who had been in the vehicle. The driver, identified as Leon T. Clark, 30, of Coeur d’Alene, had been ejected prior to the vehicle entering the water. The passenger, identified as Antron D. Lewis, 21, of Coeur d’Alene, was able to escape the vehicle prior to the vehicle sinking. Both occupants were attended to by witnesses and good Samaritans before being transported to Kootenai Health, the KCSO said.
The KCSO Dive Rescue Team responded and determined no other occupants were in the vehicle.
The crash is under investigation, but speed is believed to be a factor.
The crash resulted in the roadway being blocked for a few hours while the scene was processed.
