FLAK: Bring it on

| July 12, 2020 1:00 AM

I’m sure I’ll catch some flak for what I’m about to say but that is OK. Coming from a very liberal state I saw many times where people made laws or tried to make laws restricting people’s rights or freedoms over concerns.

I understand Mr. Hopkins’s concern over drunk people with loaded guns. I am all for not being able to have a loaded gun and being drunk. That being said, has it been an actual issue in North Idaho? How many people get shot every year by a drunk person? Are more people shot by people who aren’t drunk?

I don’t know the stats; I wish I did. These are questions that need to be asked. If it is a non-issue in North Idaho there isn’t a need for creating a new law. As I stated before, I don’t think drunk people should have loaded guns. But this kind of thing can escalate into other areas like I saw in the state I came from where people were told which direction they can walk around a lake? Which actually happened. But nobody paid any attention to the signs.
