Small world wedding bells
We just spent a week in North Dakota and eastern Montana with family and friends. Oldest daughter, Alyssa, was married Saturday in Homestead, Mont., to Brady Hove. In another of those "small world" experiences, Brady's grandmother, Mildred, is Marge Chadderdon's sister. So my daughter is married to Marge's great nephew. We're still figuring out how that makes us kin but what are the odds that two people who met 800 miles from here in eastern Montana would have relatives who know each other in another state? Marge grew up in the Froid/Medicine Lake/Homestead area of Montana where many of her family still ranch and farm.
In Box: I get quite a few e-mails from interesting people and was tickled to hear from my favorite Olympian, Ian Waltz, last week. He's in the countdown to Beijing and grateful for the hometown support and good wishes he's received from so many of you.
Another fun e-mail began, "G'Day Kezza!" It wasn't spam but a note from Jonno Durrant and Stefan Hunt in Australia whom I met nearly two years ago during their surfing 50 states adventure. Seems the surfer boys have completed their documentary of the experience and will be showing it in Coeur d'Alene on Dec. 15. Sneak preview at www.surfing50states.com
Carrie Cooper Valdez, aka the Ironman Bride whose ceremony I photographed, e-mailed to say how much they loved Coeur d'Alene. During Ironman her husband, Dr. Pete, couldn't figure out how so many spectators knew he'd gotten married. Until Tina Hough from The Roosevelt Inn left a message telling them their photo and Pete's race number had run in the newspaper, that is. The newlyweds were able to pick up several copies before heading back home to San Antonio.
Feeling kind of cranky lately if for no other reasons than summer started late and is going too fast and that there are so many fun things to do nearly every day of the week, I can't do them all!
For decades, every time we'd go through Haugen, Mont., we stopped with the kids at the 10,000 Silver Dollar Bar. They always loved the aisles and aisles of souvenir trinkets. Noticed last week that the 10,000 silver dollars has grown to 50,000 silver dollars. Inflation?
Gas trivia ... the farther we traveled east the more gas cost. Highest price we saw was $4.23 a gallon! The best part of traveling to other states? Seeing the Welcome to Idaho sign. :)

Also, isn't it strange that gas costs more in eastern Mt and western ND and we are the ones with jillions of oil wells? Right now in Sidney, the regular unleaded gas is $4.219--ridiculous, huh?
I was in Coeur d'Alene the end of June to visit my sister, Edna Martin, and Ginger and Lesli, too, of course. Actually it was during the Ironman goings-on, so it was busy, and HOT!! It is always fun to visit there and I did not find the people to be rude as another writer had indicated.
Happy Summer!! "
