Hundreds of people in Columbia plan to walk with the Alzheimer’s Association on Sunday to support the search for a cure.
The walk will be held at Cosmo Park, located at 1615 Business Loop 70 along the Cosmo Fitness Trail. Registration and check-in will begin at noon in the Lamb Shelter, followed by a kickoff ceremony at 1 p.m. The walk itself will begin after, and walkers have the option of walking a 1-mile or a 3-mile route.
More than 551 people on 74 teams have registered for the 2018 Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
As of Wednesday, teams and individuals in Columbia had raised almost $100,000, according to the event website.
Elizabeth Willett, a walk manager with the Alzheimer's Association, said more than half of the money will be kept in the community to fund local support groups and organizations associated with the Alzheimer's Association, while the rest will go the national organization to fund research.
Participants and teams can still register to walk, volunteer and fundraise on the Alzheimer’s Association’s website until Sunday.
